As I watched the female protagonist's exploits, I couldn't help but be amused by how she lives her daily life. For many, simply looking at her actions will give them the idea that she is not mentally healthy. But it is important to keep in mind that a person's actions are not the only basis of his mental health. According to Matsumoto and Juang (2008), statistics of behavior, deviance, reliance on subjective reports of distress, and the individual's ability to perform his or her duties as a person are the elements that must be examined to determine a person's well-being . . Another criterion that can be considered is the basis of the Nolen-Hoeksema anomaly (2007). According to this, cultural relativism, unusualness, distress, maladjustment and mental illness are the important factors to consider before a person is labeled as abnormal or crazy. Applying these standards to the way the protagonist tries to overcome the daily trials of life, I can say that she is mentally sound. I don't want to base my judgment solely on the absurdity of his behavior in front of a huge number of people because we all have our absurdities, but we don't consider ourselves abnormal. He may appear to have uncoordinated body movements and seem to have a world of his own while listening to loud music, but it is obvious how he manages to be a productive person who fulfills what I consider the most important basis of normality. She works very hard and does what she is told to do; a characteristic that is sometimes very difficult to find among people who consider themselves healthy. Another characteristic that met this criterion was how he was saving to go to California. Just like every person, she also dreams of being... middle of paper... healthy, and doesn't have any mental disorder that makes her feel uncomfortable. Watching the real character in the movie made me realize that we all lose our sanity and rationality at some point in our lives. It is unfair to simply judge a person's sanity without considering the type of environment they grew up in and how often they engage in this type of behavior. Indeed, the main role in the film is the emblem of someone who is not afraid to be himself. In fact, it is not right to judge people who are very happy to be themselves and consider them abnormal or worse dysfunctional because they do nothing that could harm others. After all, we are all doing what we can to fit in and at the same time stay true to who we really are. We all have our own absurdities and we all know that we don't want to be judged based on our weirdness.
