Children seem to misbehave more because there are not as many consequences as in years past. Teachers are no longer respected as they once were because they don't have the strength to control the class like in past years. Vockell gives a great example of how useful corporal punishment is "that the punishment is very clear if the teacher gives punishment for three days the child and the teacher must be shocked the whole time, if as if corporal punishment is used it would just be done” (278). When using corporal punishment, students realize the consequences that the actions they are showing would affect their learning experience lead. As more states abandon the use of corporal punishment as an effective way to teach discipline and respect for authority, the greater the problems. Without using corporal punishment, a child may believe that using terrible language is an acceptable practice later in life. Then when you talk to a CEO, you find out it's not because they don't get a call about the job. Without giving children the right consequences of their actions they will never respect the authority they encounter later
