Becoming a historian requires many different skills and first begins with familiarity with the workplace. As one, it must receive adequate funding to keep a historic building alive by grant writing and educating the community using good public speaking skills. Additionally, I need to hone your research skills to set up exhibits and proper training before starting the archiving process. Sandy, the curator, gave me a tour of the Milford Historical Society. I moved some necessary books from one place to another in the Bryan-Down house. Additionally, I looked at some biographies of Ells family members. Sandy reviewed the preliminaries of the Hartford conference. Once Sandy left, Ardienne, soon to be the former president of the Milford Historical Society, and I picked out a costume for the educational tours. I have found that for the first few educational tours I will look at what Ardienne does. I have been told to arrive at nine in the morning for each school visit and a visit will be added for June 10th. The next day I went to the Hartford Conference. Marcia Winter, the new president of the Milford Historical Society, attended a conference on grant writing with me at the legislature in Hartford. There I made many connections with other historical societies, museums, and supporting collection care agencies. I have a whole list of places I can contact now to visit, intern or find information for my future. One of the most important lessons I learned about getting a grant is that you need to do a lot of community projects to demonstrate how important the historic building is to continue to maintain the building or the archives within it. After this conference it was time to start school visits to interact with...... middle of paper......at work. I was told how the data entry sheets will be filled out and then how we will all enter this data into the computer into the Past Perfect filing program. I was told about data archiving terminology and how I will always work in a team of at least two people when archiving data. We will start archiving data in a week. Also, I received a perfect past training record, so I could learn the program better on my own. I'm supposed to be a major asset in this program to the rest of the Society's members, so I have to learn everything about it to be a minor expert. Therefore, from this internship I have already acquired important historical skills. In conclusion, my first two weeks of internship have been full of eye-opening experiences that will prepare me for my future field. I have completed thirty and a half hours of my internship hours to this point.
