Teachers and principals believe the shift to e-books will be an important step in modernizing city schools (Lowinger 2). E-books are an online version of a regular, standard textbook. Some schools are switching to e-books as the world becomes more and more involved with technology. Technology is becoming more and more advanced these days. Adults believe it is important to teach teenagers how to work with new technology (Springen 2). Technology has come a long way since textbooks came out. Textbooks have developed over the years and can now be present on electronic devices. To read e-books you don't need to be at the computer. Almost any device used for school can contain downloadable online books. People can read e-books on small devices like an iPad or kindle. It just depends on the device it is downloaded to ("What..." 1). Students can download their textbooks online to any device they want, as long as the device supports the downloaded e-book. While some teachers think online books will help students learn better, others think students will become distracted by e-books. Schools should switch to e-books because they cost less, students don't have to carry as much weight, and they have more features. Paperbacks can cost more than e-books; therefore, e-books can help save students money. McNeil said: “A quick analysis of a textbook retailer will show that the online version of a textbook can be up to 60% cheaper than its paper equivalent.” Schools can save a fortune by switching to e-books (10).
