Step 1: grab the text in your city. Summarize the original situation and the meaning of the text for the biblical audience. During this phase of the early church, people from all walks of life came to follow Jesus Christ; however, the message of the Gospel did not pass beyond the Jewish people. This does not mean that only full-blooded Jews came to the faith, but the “Greek Jews” also came to the faith. The church was doing what it was supposed to do: supporting and helping widows and orphans. They seemed to understand this service quite well. However, true Jews took care of their widows while letting other widows struggle. The twelve disciples realized that this situation was a problem to be solved, but they realized that they could not deal with all the so-called minor problems because they had to devote time to teaching and preaching the Word of God. Therefore, they had some godly men elected (lay people) of the church to the title of "deacon" to ensure that the entire body was cared for. Step 2: Measure the width of the river you need to cross. What are the differences between the biblical situation and our situation? In the situation found in this text, there were only Jews who were part of the church. In today's world, the church is made up of people from all walks of life - the church has gone beyond Jerusalem. Furthermore, in this situation, it is shown that the church had difficulty feeding the widows. In today's church, one of the primary responsibilities of the church is not to necessarily provide for widows (this does not mean that the church can and should do so if necessary). The people were elected for the spiritual purpose of making sure the church was honest with all its members... middle of the paper... and to take care of the people who truly need their help. Jesus said the greatest commandments were to love God and love others (Matthew 22:36–40). Therefore, the Church must show love to people who are in desperate need. For example, the church should help in relief missions, homeless shelters, people in its congregation who are struggling financially, physically, and spiritually (this can include widows). However, whatever the church does, it should expect nothing in return but rather simply serve. The church should also have other people in the church, besides the senior/head pastor, who can help with people's needs. The work of helping people along with teaching the scriptures can be too much for one man to handle. The church should have leaders within it to help take care of matters that do not directly require the pastor's attention.
