Organizational Effect on Employee PsychologyOrganizations are defined as a social group of individuals who come together to achieve a common goal or particular purpose. The success of an organization begins with a solid foundation to build on. The foundation starts with a vision, followed by a clear and concise mission statement and supported by a great employee base that executes the plans. When we zoom in on the layers of a successful organization, it usually reveals great leadership and loyal employees who follow it. Understanding the importance of great leadership and the value of high-performing staff is critical to the success of any organization. The relationship between the organization and employee psyches can be very fragile, and leadership must take steps to ensure that employees who foster the culture feel valued and stress-free whenever possible. This is a challenge, and this is why industrial/organizational psychology (IO psychology) has become so widespread over the past decade. Cherry (2014) stated that IO psychology uses psychological theories and principles to solve problems related to the workplace and organizations. These issues include worker productivity, selecting qualified candidates for specific jobs, and improving the mental and physical well-being of employees in work environments! I had the unique experience of working for an organization that has been around for over 125 years. This organization has survived the ups and downs of the national economy, endured five major US wars, and, most importantly, employed hundreds of thousands of people in its existence. In my two years on the job, I've noticed several key areas where this particular organization suffers in... middle of paper... and employee satisfaction. I believe this organization will continue to withstand the trials and tribulations that plague it, and if they implement the solutions I suggest, they will achieve success on a level they have not encountered in a long time. My store was ranked in the bottom 20% of the nation in performance when I first took the job, and the census survey reflected these dismal results. Just two years later, my store ranked in the top 10% in the nation, and in 2012 I was awarded the “best of the best” performance award! To my credit, the solutions I present in this article are similar to the ones I've adopted in my shop, and I didn't need a rocket science degree to implement them. As Albert Einstein (rocket scientist) once said, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.
