When some people hear the word ecotourism, the first idea that comes into their mind is tourism without harming nature. This is certainly true, but it is not a clear and complete definition. Furthermore, not all people are aware of the damage actually caused by tourism. So for some an eco-tourist is the person who travels without the benefits of civilization, such as: good cars, comfortable accommodation, consumption of electricity and hot water; who spends the night next to the fire in the open air and damages nature less than the tourist who takes advantage of these benefits. The definition of ecotourism given in 1990 by the International Ecotourism Society is that of "responsible travel to natural areas that preserves the environment and improves the well-being of the local population" (TIES, 2012). According to Louise Osborne, author of the exclusive column for 4Hoteliers.com, travel damages the environment: boats, planes, buses and cars pollute the air with carbon dioxide, while tourists collect rare plants and “break off pieces of coral while they dive, stay in hotels built on the site of a destroyed rainforest” (2014). Today some tourists have revised their opinions on travel, they have begun to recognize that traveling could have negative impacts on the cultures, economies, environments and people of other countries; and they ask themselves “how to better protect the environment and travel in an eco-sustainable way” (Osborne, 2014). The decision to do so became ecotourism as an “idealistic goal” to improve “the world through responsible travel” (Blue, n.d.). It is important to support the idea of ​​ecotourism because it provides environmental education to travellers; it helps maintain the purity of the environment and improves the lives of local people. The next aspect covered by ecotourism is the improvement of the communities involved in ecotourism such as the host country and the country from which the visitor comes. There is no doubt that ecotourism plays an important and important role in solving the problems that local people are facing. First of all, the people directly involved such as: guides, owners and employees of eco-lodges and restaurants, drivers, park guards, tour operators and local communities obtain monetary benefits from providing the service to eco-tourists. This is because this segment of tourism allows for the creation of new jobs and as a result people have jobs, earn a good income and support their families and lives. It also allows a portion of ecotourism profits to be collected and reinvested in local nature conservation efforts.
