Topic > How Apartheid Was Born in South Africa - 1192

In 1948, apartheid was introduced in South Africa. Apartheid means separation and is the political policy of racial segregation. Each racial group was segregated from other races in South Africa. These groups consisted of whites, blacks, and mixed-race (Asians and Indians). The white minority had dominion over the entire country. Apartheid not only separated whites from non-whites, but also separated blacks from coloreds. When apartheid ended in 1994, it left behind a legacy. Crime and violence became substitutes for the path to wealth. Segregation never completely disappeared and black children/teenagers also did not receive a sufficient education. Families were torn apart by apartheid and the loss of parents to AIDS. Finally, Nelson Mandela also had a huge impact on South Africa. Although many negative events occurred after apartheid, today improvements have been made for black South Africans. To begin with, apartheid did not give black people any freedom. All the things like what kind of job you would get, what school you would go to, what bathroom you would be allowed to use and so on, were all determined by white people. Apartheid also ensured that blacks were not allowed to live in white neighborhoods. The hated “passing laws” were then enacted. These laws required that all backs and colors carry a savings account with them. If they did not have the pass, they would face severe punishment. Blacks were not allowed to remain in a white area for more than 72 hours until they received a stamp on their pass. The end of apartheid has left a mark on many black South Africans today. Because of apartheid, black South Africans today are angry towards whites. Crime and violence are extremely popular today in... middle of paper... behind many donations that will be remembered by everyone around the world, especially South Africans. In conclusion, apartheid had a huge impact on the world economy. South Africans today. Apartheid not only divided whites from other races, but also distinguished blacks from Indians and Asians. With the end of apartheid, a legacy remains. Crime and violence became substitutes for the path to wealth. Segregation still existed throughout South Africa, all racial groups were still segregated from other races and black children/adolescents were not receiving sufficient education. Families separated from each other due to apartheid and the death of many parents due to AIDS or HIV. Nelson Mandela, an extremely important person for South Africa, left a legacy in South Africa. Even though tragic events occurred in South Africa after apartheid, improvements are being made for South Africans.
