Many important activities in the story also take place in his home and school. The settings are all well explained in the book. Most readers should be able to identify with the characters in this book. The protagonist is a thirteen-year-old girl named Celeste Harris. She's an overweight student who thinks nothing can be worse than the popular and mean Lively Carson stealing her best friend, Sandra. That is until her aunt Doreen secretly enters Celeste into a pageant for plus-size girls. Regardless, Aunt Doreen is a typical mean aunt who is always in people's business and has two daughters. While Kristen is the youngest and looks like a Barbie doll, Kathleen is the oldest and is getting married. Now, Sandra has been Celeste's best friend since third grade. That is until Lively Carson, Celeste's worst enemy who always makes fun of her, changes the situation. Finally, Violet Page is a famous plus size model who hosts the Miss Husky Peach pageant. She is also married to Theo Christmas, a celebrity who has had a crush on Celeste ever since she saw him in concert. Readers can learn a lesson from each of these characters.
