Topic > Tim Cook's Leadership Style - 1074

Two of the biggest were with working conditions at Foxconn in Wuhan, China, and with the FBI for the San Bernardino shooting. An article by Paul Hink for Leaders We Deserve, described that Foxconn, the world's largest electronics company, had 150 employees threatened with suicide (Hink). Thankfully, none of them did; however, there have been more than 18 suicide attempts and 14 of them have died. The reasons for this are due to working up to 16 hours a day with low wages and inhumane treatment (Hink). They even went as far as putting layers of netting around the building to prevent suicides. Facing Finance, an organization that warns investors not to invest in companies that violate human rights, also provides information on Foxconn's conditions. Most days they work 11-13 hours in an environment that endangers their health and safety. They work so many hours that employees often sleep on the job and can only visit family once a year. They live in crowded military-style housing and are not paid overtime (Facing Finance). Since Apple products are manufactured here, they can solve this problem by providing the organization with the money to eliminate this horrendous lifestyle that half a million people live every day.
