Mountains: they are unmistakably distinctive. Some would believe that mountains are a creation of God that surpasses the heavens, while others would say that the world evolved to form such megalithic structures. In any case, no other creation can match the height of Mount Everest. The tallest man-made buildings are not in relative comparison. Looking at the site of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, an individual could never imagine a grander creation. The Burj Khalifa stands at over 828 meters or 2,716.5 feet. However, Mount Everest overshadows this height with its astonishing 8,850 meters above sea level. What an incredible record! Now, one may consider how extraordinarily difficult it would be to climb and overcome a mountain of that stature. A mountain is made up of many stones one on top of the other. Life is made up of many moments in a similar way. In Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin's book, Three Cups of Tea, mountains are part of ordinary life. Greg Mortenson's mission to climb the second highest mountain, K2, quickly turned into the dramatic story of “One Man's Mission to Promote Peace… One School at a Time.” Each moment was a defining period of time in his life and the lives around him. Greg Mortenson was a man who lived for the next high, the next highest mountain. He traveled the world climbing the world's highest peaks, including his attempt at K2. Mortenson failed to reach the summit, but managed to get lost. Coming down from the hill, he discovered a Balti village called Korphe, which had a poor community. The chieftain, Haji Ali, welcomed Mortenson and offered him tea; tea is a sign of respect and friendship in the Middle East. ...... middle of paper ......ton have spiritual events on their respective mountains. The question of whether mountains are spiritual may be debated to the end of humanity, but there is no doubt that they play a significant role in religion. Difficulties are a constant part of the life of a human being. These metaphorical mountains that we deal with mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically transform us. We have a choice: fall to the foot of the mountain and give up, turn around and go back, or take our time and face the summit one stone at a time until we reach our goals. The choice of Mortenson required the utmost commitment and determination. He fought heroically to provide the nation with opportunities: education, healthcare and water. Mortenson used every stone from those mountains to create a better world, not only for himself, but for the lives of other human beings..
