Many people think that publicly humiliating people will reduce the act of crimes. According to Tangney that “individuals who feel ashamed are no less likely to repeat their transgression” (Tangney 525). This shows that when a crime occurs, big or small, declaring it publicly will lead to more crimes, because wherever the person goes people see them as a bad person and not as a person who made a mistake. Often, this will lead to the person actually committing a worse crime than they have already committed because they see themselves as a bad person due to society's view of them. Often they will not be able to accept the fact that they have made a mistake. Because the government usually involves them by giving them a punishment that only makes them feel worse about themselves. Which will lead them to deny their criminal act. Because the shameful punishment the government will give them will make them “irrationally angry” (Tangney 525). Therefore, it is better to give criminals punishments that make them behave better than to shame them in front of everyone
