The Yellow Wallpaper; a feminist work The women's suffrage movement was a huge epidemic that affected people all over the world. Women simply wanted to receive the same amount of appreciation and respect that men received. The Yellow Wall-Paper was published in January 1892 by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, known not only for her writings, but also for her activism for women's rights. The timeline of the women's suffrage movement took place over the years from 1848 to 1920. Because of the way the narrator's husband, John, treated her while he was ill in The Yellow Wall-paper, it is thought that this short history was written to highlight women's issues during this time. Despite the ineffectiveness of early medical practices, the short story The Yellow Wall-Paper is a feminist piece, for the reasons of the evidence given throughout the story, the author's personal background, and was published in 1892, in which he was during the Women's Suffrage Movement. Unlike today, doctors in the 1800s often learned their skills through apprenticeship; therefore they were not authorized and did not have the appropriate training or knowledge. The narrator did not fully believe that her husband, also a doctor, was doing what was best for her. "Better in body perhaps—" I began, and stopped. The unnamed woman, who is the narrator, has her own opinions about the diagnosis and what she considers the best ways to treat her condition, but as a patriarchal woman, she ignores her thoughts and rules in favor of treating her brothers and husbands . This refers to the way women were looked at in the late 1800s, their thoughts were not as important as men's and they often went with men's ideas over women's. Her husband often treats her like she's a child, calling her "baby" and saying things like "bless her little heart".”
