The musical world of Rajasthan"Rajasthan shows the only example in the history of humanity of a people who resist every outrage that barbarism can inflict or that human nature sustains, and bent to the earth, yet rising optimistically from the pressure and making calamity a sharpening stone of courage" Of India's immensely beautiful states, each unique in its ethnicity and traditions, Rajasthan is probably the most mystically intriguing of all. The dullness of the desert, contrasted with the rich and colorful heritage, poses a conundrum to this land of kings and warriors. Not only does Rajasthani art hold a special place in traditional Indian art, this exotic and vibrant land is also internationally renowned for its indigenous music and dance. Among the various musical groups of this desert land, the most important group of musicians is that of the Langas and the Manganiyars. Music is undoubtedly the most important aspect of their daily lives. The most important role of the traditional folk music of the Langas and Manganiyars of Rajasthan is the unique identity it offers to these desert musicians. A quick look at the history of the province, the performers of Rajasthani folk music and its audiences, the voice and instruments of the folk singers provides an insight into the way music has influenced them, giving them their deserved place in the international arena . Rajasthan is historically known as the land of kings and warriors. The state was privileged with this identity because of the country's most prominent ethnicity, the Rajputs. The Rajputs rose to prominence in the 9th and 10th centuries and were a major force to reckon with in medieval India. Passionately attached to their land, family and honour, the Rajputs treated warfare as a sport and followed a strong chivalrous code of conduct (Indtravel, 1993). The Rajputs were great patrons of dance and music. Music was rooted in their customs and traditions, such as pre-war rituals and victory celebrations. Rajasthani folk music flourished during the reign of the Rajputs and spread far and wide establishing their distinct identity. Myths and legends of velvet, gallantry, sacrifice and courage of the Rajputs have come down to us in the form of ballads sung by folk singers or in the tales of bards and court poets. Therefore, historically, music has played an important role in establishing the warrior identity of Rajasthan (Rajasthan Travel Tourism). While Rajasthani folk music was popular with Rajputs in medieval India, it is now popular with villagers who actively participate in shows organized by itinerant entertainers (Rajasthan Club).
