My adversities are the catalysts that lead to the improvement of opportunities in my life. I believe my life is built with great purpose; a purpose that has caused the hardships I have endured thus far, but also a purpose that is the core of my various successes, a purpose that opens doors for me to support others and gives me hope for an influential and resourceful future. My past history, present experience at Cardozo SHS, and future plans strengthen my desire to attend college and make me an excellent candidate for the Esperanza Scholarship. My early life brought me to where I am today in many different ways. When I was four years old, I was diagnosed with high myopia, an eye condition that causes severe nearsightedness. Three years after my diagnosis, my hospital sent me to be treated abroad, as my condition had been proven to be congenital. Unfortunately, my parents couldn't afford the costs, so they tried to find me a sponsor by enrolling me in a non-profit German church school. I stayed in this school for a year because, even though I had finished first grade, they only accepted students who were starting first grade. Taking me as inspiration, my sister, KeAbnesh Girma Zewdie, founded the New Vision Children Foundation (NVCF), a New York-based nonprofit organization that focuses on bringing medical care to underprivileged children with severe vision problems. As a result, I also became the spokesperson for the foundation. Nine years after I entered the German Ecclesiastical School, my sister found me a sponsor in the United States, separate from the foundation. Because of this, I obtained a one-year visitor visa (B1) and attended the 10th grade at Brooklyn Preparatory High School. During the school year I created hono...... middle of paper ......movement that will enhance the harmony between the positive sides of government and urban areas by promoting the industrialization of more environmentally friendly products of any kind . So far I have endured a serious eye condition, not being able to receive the kind of financial support I needed from my family, and not being able to receive support from the US government because I am not a citizen or legal resident. But I also made both social contributions and academic achievements that gave purpose to the cause of my life's difficulties. And after going through it all and expressing a more specific commitment to a better future, I face, once again, another obstacle to my plan to study biochemistry and impact as many lives as possible in a positive way. And since I need support to achieve my goal, that's why I need the Esperanza scholarship.
