“A gun is a tool. He has no emotions or feelings. He cannot make decisions or act. He doesn't know hate. He does not discriminate, take sides or judge others. It is morally neutral. It is neither better nor worse than any other tool. A gun has no action without a user. Remember this” -Anonymous. As our world seems to become increasingly violent and mass shootings seem commonplace, many government leaders are pushing for some gun laws that would ban the public from owning firearms of any kind. This is wrong because, as citizens of the United States, we have the right to bear arms. Despite the recent increase in gun violence in the United States, government leaders should not create laws that restrict the use of guns, whether it involves magazine capacity, concealed carry, or eradicating assault weapons from the public. Gun violence is studied to determine its consequences. causes and how to reduce it within society. In many studies it has been shown that firearms owners have used their weapons several times for self-defense (“Study Methodologies” 2). When citizens were granted the right to carry illegally, crime was reduced, especially violent crime (“Methodologies for the study” 3). This has been proven in Florida, where the concealed carry law has been in place since 1987. However, there will always be some form of danger around when firearms are present. One theory is that the person killed in a homicide often owns a firearm, demonstrating that being near guns causes crime ("Study Methods" 2). Studies say that even if firearms were inaccessible to criminals, they would not hesitate to use other legal weapons to commit acts of violence. Crazy people don't understand reality the way normal people do. This issue… middle of paper… as citizens of the United States, we have the right to bear arms. We must have the ability to maintain unrestricted possession of firearms, and if we are not granted that, we must fight for it. Our country was founded on freedom, and one of those freedoms was the right to bear arms. If we lose this right, it will mean a loss of our fundamental human rights and dignity. It is believed that by eliminating weapons, violence will cease to occur, but criminals will always be able to obtain weapons, regardless of whether there is a law or not. We must be able to have armed, honest, and courageous American citizens in our society to protect the innocent from gun attacks. Recently in Illinois, the right to carry concealed weapons was granted to citizens, showing that the government is making the right decisions, leading to a better and safer tomorrow for all the American people.
