Topic > Need to change English spelling rules

English is a tool for communication between people who do not use the same language. It is widely learned as a second language, and many countries and organizations worldwide use English as their official language. This is why many people try to learn English, but unfortunately mastering it is almost impossible. Because English has no standardized spelling rules, many people who try to learn English, including people who use English as their native language, suffer from spelling problems. Because of this circumstance, the debate about whether or not English spelling rules should be standardized and reformed has been very popular recently. In “Use Your Own,” published by Wired Magazine in February 2012 and written by Anne Trubek, a writer, editor, and associate professor of rhetoric, composition, and English at Oberlin College, Anne Trubek argues that English spelling rules should change along with technology. . In “A Case for and Against Proper Spelling,” a transcript of Talk of The Nation on NPR News at www.npr.org, Anne Trubek argues that our fixation on correct spelling is outdated and Lee Simmon, a copy editor at Wired Magazine, counters by arguing that these standards make communication possible. In “Why English Spelling Should Be Updated” on spellingsociety.org, written by Masha Bell, a retired teacher of English, German, Russian and French, Masha Bell says the basic English spelling system is more complicated than most of languages. In a Journal of “The Simplified Spelling Society” on spellingsociety.org, written by Justin B Rye who has a Masters in Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, he responds to 13 objections to spelling reform. A “History of English Writing” video on YouTube, at...... middle of the page ......and what it has done so far and how the writing system has been governed and influenced. The video says technology affects English spelling and introduces new words. Technology takes us away from the rules. Changing English spelling rules is natural, normal and inevitable. We need to change spelling rules along with time. In conclusion, English spelling should be reformed to be more easily memorized. English is the most widespread language in the world, but it does not yet have standardized spelling rules and this creates difficulties for people. English should not be a barrier to achieving people's goals. We need to stop resisting change. Together with the change of time, together with the development of technology, we must learn how to adopt the new normal before it is too late.
