The main concern of new parents is which car seat is suitable for their newborn baby. Not only do they have to decide which car seat is right for them, but they also have to make the most important decision, whether they should ride rear-facing or forward-facing. In 2008, research was conducted to provide information that children under the age of two are 75% less likely to be injured in a rear-facing car seat. Rear-facing and forward-facing seats have pros and cons depending on the severity and type of crash you are involved in. The rearward facing cover can better protect the child in the event of a side impact. During accidents, the child's body is completely harnessed, so no dangerous movement is made to pull the neck in the wrong direction. The rear-facing position also has disadvantages, for example the legs can be pressed against the seat and cause an uncomfortable in-car experience. In the event of a rear-end collision they could be ejected from the car. Additionally, the rear-facing position can cause your legs to be crushed against the seat. During side impacts, cars can potentially overturn. Side impact crashes are said to be the most dangerous type of car accident. The rear-facing seat is the best option during this type of accident. If the car overturns, the side seats are better equipped to restrain the child in the seat. The seat is able to make swivel movements thanks to the attachments to keep the child in a straight line. Keeping them in a straight line reduces the risk of injury, especially to the spinal cord. Having a straight back, it will not bend or break. A rear-facing car seat protects your child using a 5-point safety harness which is a hook system also used by race car drivers and flight pilots. This allows the child to remain in the seat..... . half of the paper ......t Results." Msnbc.com. Np, 03 March 2004. Web. 05 May 2014." Child Passenger Safety: Fact Sheet."
