Topic > A brief analysis of mental disorders - 1053

Everything about psychology fascinates me, from the history of the founders of psychology, to some of the theories that have developed over time, to how science and our brains work biologically . When I first started thinking about becoming a psychologist, one of my main questions was how the mind works and how it can force us to choose to perform certain actions, especially those that could impact ourselves. However, during this learning period, I realized that not everything in my future career is sweetness and harmony, for example, there are facts that at some point led me to wonder how, after countless studies, a person is still threatening herself or other people. For example, I didn't know that according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), more than 36,000 people die from suicide each year in the United States, or that there is approximately 1 suicide death for every 10,000 people and an estimated 1 suicide every 11 attempts made by a person. Mental disorders are common around the world, but in the United States, a quarter of adults are diagnosed with one or more disorders and 1 in 17 suffers from an extremely debilitating mental illness. On the other hand, mental pathologies are also widespread in the child population and the average in our country of those suffering from a serious mental illness is 1 child in every 5; during their early years or at some point in their life. (American Psychiatric Association)Mental health; as several associations describe, it includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being and influences how we think, feel and act as we go through life. It also helps determine how we manage stress, relate to others, and make choices... center of the card... until it is difficult to discover how to prevent the causes of mental disorders. However, I have learned some symptoms that would prevent a person from starting to receive proper treatment. If a person indicates thoughts of suicide or has a strange attitude, listen and take their concerns seriously. Don't be afraid to ask questions about your plans. You need to let them know that people can take care of the situation and explain that they are not alone. They should also be encouraged to seek help immediately from an experienced professional and not to leave them alone. Bibliography: Mental health. American Psychiatric Association. 2012. Network.
