During the late 19th century, Impressionism was influenced by the tourism industry and the leisure industry. The new plein air paintings were introduced to many artists early in that period. This essay will discuss the paintings of Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, examining some of their paintings and the affect of the industries in revolt, as mentioned. Social unrest in France was part of history. The paintings of Monet and Renoir served as a documentary of the emergence of social history, describing the lifestyle of France of the late 19th century. The rise of both tourism and leisure seems to be the main subject of Monet and Renoir's paintings. The following paragraphs will first discuss the industrial revolution and the increase in pleasure in tourism and leisure. This revolution contributed to the development of the tourism industry and leisure activities in certain places such as Seine, Trouville, Chatou etc. Eight new bridges were built and some were rebuilt to beautify tourism in the Seine.
