This assignment contains instructions for using “Goodwill Hunting” as a basis for learning more about the characteristics of a person's psychological behavior. Upon further research, I found this to be a very interesting task. I'll explain a little about the characters and how it relates to my specific topic. I will compare and contrast two important theorists called Freud and Erikson. I will explain how this film relates to the specific and detailed events depicted within the film itself. I will give due credit to two extraordinary theorists still today. First, sometimes people don't realize that they can do so much more in their lives and need extra guidance to help them. In the movie Good Will Hunting, Will believes that the way his life is will be all he needs and that he really doesn't need anything else, but he doesn't realize how smart he is. Mathematics is his gift, but he needs the help of a psychologist to find direction in his life. This film shows a more in-depth look at an individual with this personality trait. Eventually, an instructor notices and tries to help him. Will clearly shows in the film that he has an attachment problem and in Erikson's Psychosocial Stage Trust VS. Distrust states that it is when a person learns whether or not they can trust the world (Engler, 2014). Because Will has difficulty becoming attached or close to anyone, he may not have received the care he needed during that time in his life. He started liking a girl in the movie, but he wouldn't talk much about his past with her, nor would he tell her he loved her. You could say he did, but he was afraid to admit it because of these trust issues. I think he behaves this way because he was an orphan and... middle of paper... and so it was. I now fully understand the detailed analysis of specific behaviors exhibited by the character. Now I can further understand the thoughts and beliefs of both theorists. This particular film helped me have a better understanding of how to correctly recognize each stage an individual goes through in life, how conflicts can arise, and how to use external influences to benefit an individual to have a more quality life by focusing on the their positive aspects to enhance their weaknesses. Through the works and lives of these two influential theorists we can all see many differences and similarities between these beliefs. It is easy to see that these two psychologists have created a springboard for all psychologists and people to study and look back on as we develop in our lives today. These founding theorists will always play an important role in psychology.
