Topic > John Locke's belief that people are born with rights

The Liberalist ViewpointLiberalism is a political ideology founded on the basis of equality and freedom. According to liberalism, life, liberty, and property are rights that people are born with and should not be taken away. In Liberia, the main political party is the Unity Party, a liberal party that focuses on economic liberalism. In South Africa, the Democratic Alliance is a liberal party that wants a society with open opportunities. Although these two nations face many issues involving the freedom of their citizens, they hope to improve their country through the ideology of liberalism. According to liberalism, people should be guaranteed freedom and equality. This political vision is one in which he believes in free and fair elections, a Bill of Rights and, above all, civil rights. The foundation of the liberalist political vision can be traced back to the 17th century, when the philosopher John Locke introduced the philosophy of people having natural rights. Locke's philosophy included what is known as the Law of Nature in which he states that people use reason to pursue their own self-interest and that they are born with an innate sense of right and wrong. Locke also introduced the idea of the State of Nature in which people live within reasonable limits without a government. Locke believed that in an absolute state of nature people could live together rationally. For example, there would be a rational limitation on ownership. This means that people would only use the land they need to survive. Of all the ideas introduced by Locke, the most important would be that people are born with natural rights. These natural rights that Locke refers to are the right to life, liberty and property....... middle of paper ......f South African language and culture, recognition of racial oppression in South Africa, past and present, that it was wrong and that positive action is needed to make it right, and finally that all South Africans are legitimate and enjoy full moral equality (“Information – DA”). For all this to be possible, the State must ensure that it does not compromise the individual's freedom (“About – DA”). I believe the liberal vision will be politically successful for the rest of the 21st century. I think this political ideology has the interest of the people as its main priority and this is the most important ideal of any political ideology. I feel that this ideology is on the rise rather than declining due to the fact that its focus is on life, liberty and property. I believe that any issue that has a solid human rights basis will last a long time.
