Sometimes knowing a foreign language can be the deciding factor in getting into a program or getting a new job. According to an article from Foreign Language Immersion Online, some benefits of learning a foreign language include: being able to meet new people, it's great for travel, after you learn one it's easier to learn another, it increases creativity and brain power, and and increases self-confidence (bets 1). These reasons are all obviously beneficial and there is no reason not to learn a foreign language, so why not just make it a requirement anyway?
