Topic > Dependency Theory - 1072

Shows the extreme potential that Tanzania has, in terms of resources and manpower, but cannot fully exploit them due to poverty and lack of awareness. This leads to the dependency theory, which describes Tanzania's dependence on other European countries. Mwanza's main source of income, Nile perch, is abundantly present in the region. Tanzanians cannot take advantage of it for food due to the high price of fish after processing. Almost none of the citizens can afford it. And so it is exported to European countries via cargo planes transported by Russian pilots. It is clear that they are not paid as much as they should for the fish, but they export it anyway. This shows how the resources of a developing country are surpassed by other developed countries to their advantage. This leaves nothing for the “peripheral” countries to do”.
