As the beginning of the distribution and sharing of music between people, one could take the invention of a printing press around 1450. The device was capable of printing ink onto a printing medium, which in Europe is attributed to the printer and goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg. This invention could be taken as a starting point for reproducing notes in paper form. However, it was not until around 1800 that printing, including sheet music, was produced for a wider audience. In 1857 Leon Scott created the first audio instrument capable of capturing audio on paper. Thomas Edison invented a phonograph in 1877. Device capable of capturing sound and playing it. Emille Berliner invented the first records in 1889 and a completely new era of music distribution on replicable media could begin. Subsequently, the actual ability to record musical performance using composition written on paper, could be taken as a starting point for the entire recorded music industry.
