Topic > Applying Alfred Adler's Personality Theory to George W...

When choosing a “famous” person to do my research proposal on, I decided on one of my favorite presidents of my time. George W. Bush seemed to be the most “real” president we have had in office since the 1990s. Next, I chose Adler's theory to apply to Bush, as he is the theorist that applied most closely to Bush's life. Let's start with some background on George W. Bush and then apply Adler's theory. George W Bush was born on July 6, 1946. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, where his father attended Yale University. George's father had served in World War II as a Navy pilot; he was using his military bill like many other veterans to get back into the flow of civilian life. (Wade, 1999) After his father graduated from Yale, he moved the family to Texas and joined the oil business. George is the eldest of six children. The six include his sister Robin who was stricken with leukemia when George was just seven. (Wade, 1999) In high school George W Bush attended Phillips Academy, a boarding school in Massachusetts. George's father had attended the same high school. He later went to attend the same university his father attended. He graduated from Yale University in 1968. (Wade, 1999) After college George joined the Texas Air National Guard. He wants to fly planes like his father did. He spent a year in training where he learned to fly F-102 fighter planes. (Wade, 1999) A few years later he decided to return to his studies to obtain a master's degree in business administration. After finishing his master's degree in 1975, he took a job in Midland, Texas to take part in the oil business. George married Laura Welch on November 5, 1977. In 1978 he once again followed in his father's footsteps and joined... middle of paper... will probably be successful, so if you paint a goal for yourself you are more likely . Assuming George W. Bush painted his goal of becoming president one day. He started from the bottom by running for Senate and losing in a two-person race. If George W. Bush had ended his political career just because he lost his first race, we would never have had him as our 43rd president. (Wade, 1999) All in all, George W. Bush turned out to be a first-born overachiever, as Adler predicted. He grew up in a strong family with a loving family. Honestly, George W. Bush grew up in the “perfect” American family situation (or at least from what they sell in the books). Bibliography Frager, R., & Fadiman, J. (2013). Personality and personal growth. (7th ed.).
