The role of teachers is a commonly discussed topic throughout secondary schools in the United States. It is designed as a program that protects the intellectual freedom or human rights of teachers, so that they are not fired after a certain number of years in a particular school system, without just cause being involved. It is a common concern nowadays because some teachers abuse the loopholes that tenure has to offer and is seen as a barrier to the well-being of students and society as a whole. This problem is simple to fix, as the time period in office should be longer. The role of teachers should be subject to continuous review and a solution should be proposed to solve the problems it creates, for example by creating complacency among teachers, making it difficult to remove unsatisfactory teachers from the workforce and requiring schools to make long-term expenditure term commitments owed to the majority of those who abuse union laws on the role in secondary school systems. The role of teachers creates complacency among teachers who do not fear losing their jobs. Once a teacher becomes certified after a certain number of years in a school system, they become satisfied with the way they teach and behave towards their students. Nixon, Packard, and Douvanis stated that some teachers have greater ability to help students care and see success than others, “since some have no incentive to perform better than others” (Philips 2). This point also refers to the fact that “when teachers become tenured, most try to get by with only the bare minimum of teaching and do not prepare in-depth lessons because they believe the tenure gives them a greater sense of job security” ( Philips). In conclusion, studies show that tenure creates complacency among teachers because they are satisfied with the way they teach, they do it. difficult to remove underperforming teachers from the workforce due to most not fearing losing their jobs and requires schools to make long-term spending commitments because getting rid of a teacher in a school takes a lot of time and effort system. These laws have been implemented throughout the United States for many centuries; now is the time to do something about it and make a change to improve our school systems affected by these tenure regulations. This proposed adjustment of the probationary period will allow for a new role path in the years to come, in order to help students succeed and have an enjoyable academic career without the burden of having poor and undesirable teachers.
