IntroductionOf Monsters and Men is an up-and-coming Icelandic band that uses emotional lyrics and familiar topics in their songs. Although they do not use a direct interpretation of the lyrics in their music videos, Of Monsters and Men uses the symbolism of a phoenix and a group of mythical monsters to bring out the overall message of their song; the power of hope when a loved one is struggling with mental illness. Drawing inspiration from Icelandic fairy tales and the stories they heard growing up, Of Monsters and Men captivates audiences across generations. Of Monsters and men's "Little Talks" uses a catchy beat and heartbreaking lyrics of loneliness to emphasize the burden of mental illnesses, like Alzheimer's, on patients and their loved ones. The artist Of Monsters and Men is a six-member independent group. Icelandic pop/folk/rock band. Members include Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, (singer/guitarist), Ragnar "Raggi" Þórhallsson (co-singer/guitarist), Brynjar Leifsson (guitarist), ArnarRósenkranz Hilmarsson (drummer), Árni Guðjónsson (keyboardist) and Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bassist) . (Songfacts, 2011) The band was born in 2009 when Nanna Hilmarsdóttir decided to leave her solo career, Songbird, and form a band and participate in Músíktilraunir, an annual battle of the band competition in Iceland. With a rapid rise in the music industry, after winning Músíktilraunire in 2010, the band decided to give up their solo career and stick together (Austinist, 2012). That same year they signed with Universal Music Group and began touring. It wasn't long before “Little Talks” was heard around the world. "Raggi" Þórhallsson invented the band's names inspired by Icelandic fairy tales and... middle of the paper... relationships can be tested in this difficult situation. Of Monsters and Men used their personal experience of watching someone they know deal with this disease and their own love of telling stories to inspire this song. “Little Talks” portrays the story of a husband and wife and the strain that mental disorders can cause in a relationship.
