A cultural myth is a fable or set of beliefs. A cultural myth refers to the set of beliefs and stories that characterize a given culture. Empowerment is the procedure that increases the ability of groups or individuals to make decisions and convert those choices into the most desired actions and outcomes. Empowerment is the degree to which people gain control over matters that are important to them. As individuals gain power, however, they can manipulate choices that shape their own lives and potentially the lives of others. In the essay “I Just Want to Be Average,” author Mike Rose was empowered to find significant responsibilities, see them as relatively competent and capable of performing those tasks, and trust that their participation in those tasks would have an impact in some way. . Mike Rose was also weakened by his low-knowledge family and teachers who taught him nothing but to survive. Mike Rose argues that society very often overlooks and does not see the full value and potential of students in his essay. "The mistake went undetected and I stayed on the professional path for two years. What a place." (Rose) He said he was sitting in a vocational school and it accidentally put him in the lower level classes, but he didn't argue with that and he continues to stay in that class. Education empowers students by creating a sense of ownership over learning. This happens when students are given the power to make decisions in an area of the curriculum. Another reason why Rose comes from an immigrant and working class family. Apparently his parents are also uneducated and unfamiliar with the intricacies of the school system. Rose lists that: "The other Rose apparently didn't do very well... halfway through the task... while the teacher worked with them, for example, analyzed the poems with them, and gave her reading sections, making a perhaps difficult book accessible through his explanations Rose was empowered by his language teacher The teacher teaches him some "real things" instead of wasting time. Mike Rose has both power and helplessness in this study period in college. The career path has been weakened by demotivated teachers and strengthened through involvement in various activities. The school system should not be designed according to social classes, even if the success of students depends on themselves and the school that they attend is like the life they will be in the future. Maybe only because Mike Rose studied in such a professional environment that made him a great person in the future.
