The big controversy right now within government and high schools is whether or not random drug testing should be legal in schools. There are many reasons why it should not be legalized, one of which is that it goes against the Fourth Amendment. Why should we test in schools when many major health organizations oppose it? All it will do is push teenagers into doing other illegal and counterproductive things. These are many reasons why drug testing should not be allowed in high schools. The Fourth Amendment states that the rights of the people shall be secured to their persons, homes, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures. The people taking the test have no right to invade the bodies of high school students for a test they have no reason to even take; they have no mandate or court order to do so. It becomes a violation when they test without any reason or suspicion of drug use.
