Topic > Analysis of Waldo's Conversion - 1103

Although the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church did not establish canon law on how often an individual should go to church until a few decades after this work, Waldo serves as a precedence for how individuals dealt with religion in an urban context. Like Waldo, they relied on teachers from theology schools and troubadours who told stories on the streets. This increased exposure to knowledge would have given people greater access to biblical teachings, as demonstrated through Waldo's revival of biblical stories during his penance. However, since he was a predecessor of this tradition, his actions were not always perceived in a positive light, as he had to prove that he was not crazy. Waldo ultimately demonstrates how every man can gain a closer relationship with God through his conversion
