Health and Safety Standards We understand that all construction work is dangerous and that is why we ensure that all employees are adequately trained to prevent injuries or accidents. The company complies with WISHA health and safety standards in many ways, starting with the company's safety and accident prevention programs. We also comply with the OSHA standard indirectly, as the U.S. Congress created OSHA as a way to establish and enforce safety and health regulations across the country; however, states may choose to operate their own health and safety programs as long as they are at least as effective as OSHA. So, Washington State chose to push forward with its own program; therefore, our company is subject to enforcement by L&I and not federal OSHA (WISHA, 2004). The purpose of these programs is to develop and ensure that no employee is forced to work in unsafe or unsanitary working conditions. It is our intention that every worker, from top management down to the bottom, is responsible for themselves, their colleagues and everyone below them, accepting the responsibility to operate safely. Below are examples of company policies in accordance with many of WISHA's core rules. Safe Workplace (WAC 296-800-110) As employers it is our responsibility to ensure a safe workplace for employees by establishing the following rules (WISHA, 2004).1. Workplaces must not present recognized risks that could cause injury to employees2. Provide safeguards, safety devices and use work practices to make the workplace safe.3. Jokes, fights, possession or use of any alcoholic beverage are strictly prohibited4. No medications of any kind will be tolerated, except those prescribed by your doctor. Employees must report on f...... half document ...... to the nearest Department of Labor and Industry. You must report information such as the name of the workplace, time and date of the incident, number of deaths or hospital admissions, contact person, telephone number and a brief description of the incident. If such an incident occurs, no one should move the equipment unless it is necessary to remove any casualties or prevent further injury. When carrying out preliminary investigations to evaluate the facts relating to the cause of the accident, the direct superior, witnesses and an employee chosen to represent the company must be present. Documentation of the preliminary investigation must be retained by the company (WISHA, 2004). Works Cited WISHA, Safety and Health Core Rules, 296-800 WAC (Wash. 2004). Pearson, R. (2005, January 1).
