Cyberbullying is a low culture, because many of these bullies are less educated and have low self-esteem, and as we could see with this new era of media. Bullies have many low culture television programs, music and magazines that feed on hurting others such as gossip magazines, reality shows and popular music that degrade people by insulting them. A good way to draw attention to cyberbullying is to use the media, because the media could have a strong impact nationally and internationally to show what bullied teenagers are going through, and if good journalists around the world were to focus more about how teens get hurt by cyberbullying can really make a difference, because it's a career where your voice can be heard and make a difference. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that suicide was the third leading cause of death among adolescents in 2004” (Hinduja 2010). As a parent, it breaks my heart to hear that so many children would rather die than continue to be cyberbullied. I had a friend when I was in high school about 20 years ago, and he always dressed in the same 2 pants and 3 shirts he had. Some children noticed this and began to make fun of him. He also had problems at home with his parents, and they were too busy arguing to pay attention to the help their son needed, so one morning, when I arrived at school, I found that he had killed himself. He jumped from a moving train in downtown New York City. That news hurt me a lot because I knew I could have said something to help him, or maybe the teachers could have done something besides ignoring him, because they saw him as being bullied, but being bullied wasn't that important in those years.
