It's no secret that today's society has a huge influence on our daily lives. Whether it's what we wear, the music we listen to or the more controversial aspects of our sex life. Teens today are exposed to sexual behavior, whether they know it or not; such as music videos, advertisements, films, television and social media, but this is good because it makes them aware of their body and they are able to know the consequences if they want to take sex for granted. Sex shouldn't be an embarrassing topic to talk about, that's why society has made it an everyday topic like it should be. Television is a huge way that society has made sex an everyday topic in a teenager's life. One network that has emphasized safe sex is the MTV network; with her hit show 16 and Knocked Up. The show gives teens a glimpse into the world of what it would be like if they decided to have unprotected sex and had to juggle a child and school. For some this show is a wake-up call and makes teenagers more aware of what their life would be like if they were to have a baby at such a young age. Many teenagers believe that they are invincible and that something as big as getting pregnant will never happen to them, but this show shows them that they are not invincible and that this can happen to anyone, no matter how careful they are. This show is a way to get teens to be more open with their partners about ways they can be careful and really think about the downsides of having sex. It's also a way for parents and teens to be more open about sex and not make it a secret, obviously it won't be a topic at the dinner table, but it allows parents and their kids to become more aware of the topic. Furthermore, at the end of each show they distribute a website called www.it... in the middle of the paper... the consequences. In society sex sells, and as long as someone is making money that is the only thing that will continue to fascinate and will never reveal the true consequence of unsafe sex. Society should limit itself to making celebrities famous and leave adolescent sexuality in the hands of parents and the school system. In an age where everything society does affects us, sex should be a vision that should be talked about without any embarrassment. Sex shouldn't be something that gets pushed aside, but should be something that is discussed more openly. There are many teenagers out there who have no idea how to properly put on a condom, or many girls who have no idea what contraceptive to take, since the only way teenagers can have a complete picture of sex is to have our society which gives them a boost and brings them to many resources online and on television.
